Missing the deadline to report your injury to your employer is one of the most common ways workers lose their right to benefits â even if the injury is clearly work-related.

What to do right now:
âReport the injury to your employer IN WRITING â email or text is fine. Keep a copy.
âRequest the workers' comp claim form (DWC-1 in many states) from HR or your supervisor.
âSee a doctor immediately â even if you feel okay. Some injuries (back, head) worsen over days.
âDo NOT give a recorded statement to the insurance company without an attorney.
âDocument everything â photo of the injury, witness names, exactly what happened.
